Install and Align the Rear Drive Sprocket, Part 1

(Continued)

If you are installing the sprocket onto a bike that uses hand brakes you simply need to install the rear wheel drive sprocket assembly. The assembly comes with two Fiber Sprocket mounting rings. Cut one of them and slide it over the axel of the rear wheel. Next line up the second Fiber Sprocket mounting ring with the one on the inside (around the axel) and then place the Rear Wheel drive sprocket over it. Using the three inner support plates slide the nine bolts all the way through. Slide a lock washer over each bolt and then screw on a nut. Determine which way the wheel will be turning when the motor is pulling the bike and insure that all the bolts are against the spokes in the pulling direction. The two images below demonstrate how this installation should take place.

If you are mounting the Rear Wheel Drive Sprocket onto a bike that uses coaster brakes (these are brakes that stop by pushing backwards against the pedals) you will need to make a modification on the sprocket. Measure the diameter of the rear wheel axel hub and then have the sprocket bored out to fit it. Because the sprocket is of such a hard metal this will have to be done at a machine shop to get it correct. Once you have the sprocket inner hole large enough to fit over the axel hub, install it as instructed for a hand brake type bike. Because of clearance you will have to use flush head Allen bolts instead of the ones that are supplied. See images below.
