Fuel / Oil Mixture

Let's talk about the fuel / oil mixture when it comes to a 2-cycle gas powered bike. A 2-cycle gas powered bicycle requires that you mix the gas and oil in the same tank. A 2-cycle motor does not have any place to add oil. This is because the lubricant for the motor comes from the oil in the gas.

Basically, if you do not mix the oil with the gas the engine has no oil and will take only a few minutes of operation to seize up. A motor that has been damaged in this way is basically now a door stop.

So what is the proper oil mixture for your 2-cycle motor? This is different depending on the motor you have. Every engine kit instruction paperwork should have the mixture ratio printed on it (if the motor kit is any good that is). The engine kit will give you a ration such as 20 to 1 or some other ratio. The key factor here is that there is 128 ounces in 1 gallon of gas. So on a 20 to 1 ratio you would divide 128 by 20 which would give you a ratio of 6.4 ounces of oil for 1 gallon of gas.

Class A Products motorized bicycles use Grubee Skyhawk motors only. These are the highest quality 2-cycle motor bicycle engines available. They are the only EPA certified motors in the United States at this time. These engine require a 16:1 mixture ratio or 8 oz. of 2-cycle oil for 1 gallon of gas during the break in period and 25:1 or 5.5 ounces of 2-cycle oil for every gallon of gas after that.

Let's talk a little about the difference between break in mixture and standard mixture ratios. The MoBike-G3 gas powered bicycle's manual requires that you use the higher break in ratio of 8 oz. of oil for 1 gallon of fuel for the first 2 gallons of fuel and 5.5 oz. of oil for every gallon after that. This is double what the manufacturer requires. Remember, the oil in the fuel is the lubrication for the motor. Therefore we feel it's better to have a little more oil during the critical break in time on your motor.

What kind of 2-cycle oil should you use? This question is often asked and there are as many answers as there are people discussing it. I have heard that it is best to use some super 2-cycle oil that I can not find anywhere, maybe in a boat shop?

What I have discovered from many miles on many different MoBike power assisted gas bicycles is this, as long as you are buying the deluxe oil (be it from Wall Mart, Lowes or any other place that sells oil for weed eaters) it really doesn't matter. These motors are pretty touch little machines.

I personally go to Lowes and by their 16 ounce Deluxe 2-cycle oil. It comes with a handy measuring cup built right in the the bottle! This oil works fine.

One final important rule. Buy yourself a 1 gallon fuel can and mix the oil in that. DO NOT attempt to mix the oil in the gas powered bikes gas tank. If you do your gonna get it wrong and things are going to go bad. You can use larger gas cans but be sure to multiply your oil mix by the number of gallons your using. I've found it simplest to use a single gallon gas can. It's also easier with 1 gallon to hold the can up while your filling the bike.

The MoBike gas series of gas powered bikes all run strong and steady if you follow the rules above.
