Electric Cruiser Bikes are Fun!

June 20th, 2010

The electric cruiser bike is just like the old fashioned cruiser bike you used to ride as a kid. They just have an electric motor. The body and frame don’t change much just because it has a battery powered electric motor. The electric cruiser bike still has the classic styling of the wide pull-back handle bars and wide-tread tires. There are many colors you can choose from, or you can customize your color. You can also purchase extras like a bell for your handle bars and a wire basket. The battery packs are small enough to conceal in the down tube of the bike. The motor sits the in the rear wheel hub.

The average power is between 350w to 500w. Battery voltage range between 24-36volts.The average speed is up to 20 MPH using the motor only. You can go faster using a little of your own peddle power. Distance with the bike is up to 30 miles per charge depending on the weight of the rider and the terrain you ride on. Some bikes offer power assist, meaning that the rider must pedal at all times. Other bikes give you the option to go purely peddle power or purely motor power.

Your local bike shop can go over any local and state laws and requirements in regards to riding your bike. Many states have helmet laws. The bike shop will be able to help you get properly outfitted in a helmet and any other safety gear you may need. Most repairs can be done there too.

Once you have decided that this is the bike for you, you can enjoy choosing your colors and adding any personalization you may want. Then take your bike out for a spin and enjoy!

A local electric bike shop is a great find

June 20th, 2010

Electric Bike ShopA local electric bike shop is a great place to look for your next electric bike. These stores specialize in electric bicycles and can help you choose which one is right for you. You can test ride your bike before you buy it. They will be able to tell you if you need to register your new bike and if you need a permit or license to operate your bike. Electric bike laws vary state by state. After you purchase your bike, you can take it to the shop for any repairs  or  adjustments your bike needs. Many offer a “new bike service” for a certain period of time after your purchase. The shop will help you customize your bike, and recommend any of the many add-on kits depending on the style of electric bike you buy.

You can also purchase an electric bike from an online electric bike shop. They can send you your new bike already assembled, or you can assemble it yourself. You can also take your bike into a local  bike shop and have them assemble it for a nominal fee. Many online bike shops offer discounted or free shipping. Some of the other offers are below cost battery replacement and a bike theft replacement policy. If you purchase your electric bike on-line, you will need to check with your local department of transportation to see what your local and state laws are in regards to operating your bike.

One of the best things about electric bikes is that they are 100% electric and therefore environmentally friendly. They cost pennies to charge which means it’s economical and wallet friendly. Many bike shops have riding clubs too. They go for day rides or take trips. Besides being great exercise, it is a great way to socialize.

June 20th, 2010

3 Wheel Electric TrikeWhy is the Three Wheel Electric Bike Gaining Popularity among Baby Boomers?

Although the three wheel electric bike can be enjoyed by all adults who want a comfortable, stress free alternative to regular cycling, consumer demand is at its highest with baby boomers.

77 million babies were born in the U.S. between the years of 1946 and 1964, making them the largest population group in the history of the United States.

How does this statistic apply to 3 wheel electric bike sales?

Reports show that 2/3rds of young boomers have children under the age of 18 living in their household and 1/3 of our aging population care for an older parent as well.  The three wheel electric bike, then, provides the perfect outlet for aging caregivers to stay mobile and active in order to keep up with, and provide for their loved ones.

Unfortunately, reports have shown that health of baby boomers is not as good as the elders of the past.  With such a large percent of our population needing extra assistance keeping up with the demands of their day to day, the advancements of the electric bicycles in this case can be a God-send!

The benefits of owning a 3 wheel electric bike just to name a few are:

  • With speeds of up to 20mph, this trike can get you to your neighborhood grocery store in no time with space on the back for your goodies.
  • It is great for zipping around the yard enjoying gardening and carrying tools that one may otherwise find physically challenging.
  • It offers a great way to keep up with younger loved ones while enjoying days outside.

Overall, the health and social benefits of owning an electric trike for aging adults are exceptional.

Market Projections for the Electric Assisted Bicycle

Market Projections for the Electric Assisted Bicycle

466 million electric assisted bicycles, e-motorcycles, and e-scooters are projected to hit the road by 2016.  This report comes from the guys at Pike Research who provide the public with in-depth, unbiased, independent information on the global market for clean technology.  They find the answer to such questions as how e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motorcycles are typically sold, what kind of governmental programs are in place and how they impact the electric 2-wheel vehicle market, and what are the differences in battery chemistries used in e-bikes just to name a few.  This information is beneficial if you are a technological company, governmental agency, or investor.

China is reported to make up 95% of the 2-wheel electric vehicle sales over the next six years, with the electric assisted bicycle taking the lead making up 56% of the market.  Outside of Pacific Asia, North America and Europe manufacturers are scurrying to meet consumer demands for better electric 2-wheel vehicles.  The lack of established distribution channels are posing a problem, keeping willing consumers from getting on board.  So many manufacturers are steadily working toward finding a successful combination of independent retailers, mass merchants, and online retailers that will effectively deliver their product while providing good customer service after the sale.

The worldwide market for e-bikes, e-motorcycles, and e-scooters is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 9% through 2016.  We are beginning to realize how beneficial this alternative form of transportation is, as our economical, social, and environmental needs are changing.  No other form of transportation offers the convenience and freedom than an e-bike does.  Owning one frees you from car payments, insurance, gas prices, and parking fees.  The environment LOVES them, and an ever-growing percentage of our population does too.

The electric bike has evolved and has become one of the hottest commodities in modern culture

June 11th, 2010

The electric bike has evolved and has become one of the hottest commodities in modern culture.  Due to advanced technological inventions, this once cumbersomely heavy and slow mode of transportation has blossomed into a sleek, lightweight, and faster version.

What is an electric bike?

It is an electrically motorized bicycle hybrid.  What once was just a push bike can now be used with power.  The electric motor with rechargeable battery can replace pedaling when tackling a steep hill or rough terrain.  Want a little more exercise?  Manual pedaling is just a click away.  Want to do a little of both, well it does that as well, reaching speeds of up to 20mph.

Electric bikes are one of the few products out there that appeals to such a broad range of people.  Whether you are young, old, rich, or poor, there is a bike out there for you, and with plenty of reasons for such an investment.

Do you want to:

Save money on transportation cost and avoid rising gas and oil prices?

Have a convenient, point-to-point transportation, without needing a driver’s license and registration?

Still enjoy the fulfillment of riding a bicycle without the hassle of steep hills and headwinds?

What is an Electric Bicycle?

June 8th, 2010

If you want to be up to speed on the quickly growing trend in the US, hop on an electric bicycle and enjoy the ride!  Whether you are green or want to be lean on your gas budget, you can tone up in more ways than one on an e-bike.

What exactly are electric bicycles?  They are bicycles with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery.  The motor replaces pedaling, allowing you to chose how much power you want to use and when.  It can reach speeds of up to 15-20 mph, with off road bikes that get up to 60! You can buy them made to ride, or if you are partial to your own bike, then there are conversion kits as well.

When looking for your electric bicycle, it is important to be familiar with the applicable laws in your State that define your bike as an e-bike rather than a moped.  This saves you from the costs of lisencing, registration and tax that attaches to other motorized vehicles.

The US Congress passed the electric bicycle law with the following Federal Regulations on what defines an electric bike.

Electric Bikes must have fully operative pedals,

  not exceed 20mph,

and have an electric motor that does not exceed a power output of 750 Watts.

State laws are constantly adjusting and it is important to check with your State on its requirements, which can be done by going to your department of transport’s website.  If there are no State laws in your area, than Federal law would apply.  In Texas, an additional weight requirement is enforced, in that your bike cannot exceed the 100 pound weight limit. The electric bicycle is classed as a bicycle, so all biking laws apply when you are on the road.

Happy cycling!

Interested in buying a chopper bicycle?

May 19th, 2010

I’m interested in buying a chopper bicycle with a motor. Can I, or do I have to settle for a bike that looks like my grandmother rode it?

Absolutely! You’ll even have your choice of chopper bicycle motors: gas-powered and electric. Both are economical to operate, and are good for the environment, and you can even leave as small a carbon footprint as possible with the electric motor and still be the envy of all your friends.

What is a chopper?

Choppers are motorcycles with all parts unrelated to performance removed, and the frame modified with a raked front end. At higher speeds on a straightaway, the raked front end on a chopper feels more stable on the road than cycles with the original factory front suspension do. However, the longer trail movement that comes with the increased rake makes the chopper less responsive in curves and while turning at slower speeds. Custom bicycle choppers are styled after those lean mean machines.

So, how fast can I expect it to go?

A gas-powered chopper bicycle motor gets incredible gas mileage–most get over a hundred miles to the gallon, and depending on the rider’s weight and style of driving, can go 15 miles or more per hour.

Serious about the environment? One of the newest entries to the motorized bicycle market, a chopper bicycle with an electric motor, is for you! It can swiftly take you up to 20 miles an hour, depending on the rider’s weight, of course, and has a range of about 20 or more miles per charge. When you add in pedaling for your health, this makes this bike great for almost anything you want from touring the countryside to being cool as you run your errands!

Where can I get one?

If you’re cooler than the Fonz and want an electric chopper bicycle with a motor of your own, or if you have any questions about motorized bicycles and why they are fun as well as good for your wallet, your health, and your lifestyle, contact a reputable dealer like Rick at MoBike who is offering this great chassis with a minimal carbon footprint!
